Phi Phi island ferry services run every day from Phuket, Krabi, Ao Nang and Koh Lanta to Tonsai Pier on Koh Phi Phi Don. Most crossings take between one and two hours, tickets start from about ฿270 for a standard ferry and ฿437 for a speedboat, and the right choice depends on where you start, how fast you want to arrive and how rough the sea is. There is no airport and no bridge, so a boat is the only way in.
This guide explains each route, the difference between a ferry and a speedboat, which pier you arrive at, how booking works and what changes in the monsoon. Fares and times come from live 12Go listings checked on 26 October 2026, plus published ferry guides. Treat them as a guide, because operators change schedules with the season.

What is the quickest way to reach Koh Phi Phi?
Take a speedboat from Ao Nang or Krabi. Listings in October 2026 showed crossings of roughly 50 minutes to just over an hour on those routes, against about two hours or more for standard ferries. From Phuket the same trade-off saves about an hour.
Phi Phi Island Ferry Routes at a Glance
Boats to Koh Phi Phi leave from four main starting points on the Andaman coast. Phuket has the most departures, but Krabi and Ao Nang are closer and often cheaper. The table below summarises what 12Go listed for each route in late October 2026, which is the end of the rainy season, so expect more departures in the dry season from November to April.
| From | Pier | Crossing time | Fares listed from | Detailed guide |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Phuket | Rassada Pier | About 1 to 3 h, depending on boat and stops | ฿270 ferry, ฿437 speedboat | Phuket to Phi Phi |
| Krabi Town | Klong Jilad Pier | About 1.5 to 3 h | ฿346 ferry, ฿700 speedboat | Krabi to Phi Phi |
| Ao Nang | Nopparat Thara | About 50 min to 2 h | ฿418 ferry, ฿600 speedboat | Ao Nang to Phi Phi |

All of these crossings end at Koh Phi Phi Don. If you are still choosing between destinations, our Koh Phi Phi guide covers the island itself, and our page on Phi Phi airport transfers explains how to link a flight to a boat.
Phi Phi Island Ferry From Phuket
Phuket is where most travelers start. Boats leave from Rassada Pier on the southeast side of the island, a short taxi or van ride from Phuket Town. A typical day on 12Go showed departures from around 06:30 through the afternoon, with Bundhaya Speed Boat running the most frequent speedboats at about ฿437 to ฿460, PP Sabai Marine at ฿650, and slower ferries from Chaokoh Travel Center, Phi Phi Cruiser and Andaman Wave Master at ฿270 to ฿400. Crossing times in the listings range from about one hour to three hours, because some departures call at extra stops.
Travelers rate the route 4.6 out of 5 across more than 4,600 reviews on 12Go. Common comments are that crews load luggage for you, that arriving about 45 minutes early at Rassada helps you find the right boat, and that at low tide the main boat may hand passengers to a smaller one near shore. Full details, operator by operator, are in our guide to Phuket to Phi Phi.
Allow extra time on the day of a flight
Rassada Pier is separate from Phuket airport, so you need a taxi or van between the two. If you arrive by air, book a ferry that leaves at least a couple of hours after landing, or choose a ticket that includes the transfer.

Phi Phi Island Ferry From Krabi and Ao Nang
Krabi saves you roughly an hour at sea compared with Phuket and is usually cheaper, which is why the route suits travelers already on the mainland coast. There are two common starting points, and they are not the same place.

Krabi Town and Klong Jilad Pier
Boats from Krabi Town use Klong Jilad Pier, about 4 km southwest of the town. 12Go's route guide says white songthaews cost about ฿30 per person and a taxi about ฿150, and that the ticket price does not include getting to the pier. In October 2026 the listings showed standard ferries at about ฿346 to ฿400 taking around two hours, a high-speed ferry at ฿370, and speedboats at about ฿700 taking under an hour. The route holds a 4.4 out of 5 rating from more than 1,300 reviews. See our full Krabi to Phi Phi guide for operators and times.
Ao Nang and Nopparat Thara
From Ao Nang, boats leave from the Nopparat Thara pier area. Listings in October 2026 showed ferries at about ฿418 to ฿424 taking around two hours, and speedboats at roughly ฿600 to ฿700 taking 50 minutes to just over an hour, with a few premium options above that. If you are staying in Ao Nang, this is usually the simplest start, and our guide to Ao Nang to Phi Phi covers pickup and timings.
Phi Phi Island Ferry From Koh Lanta
Koh Lanta has the shortest crossing of the four. 12Go's route guide puts the trip at about one to one and a half hours, and the listings in October 2026 showed fares from about ฿270 for a ferry combined with a truck transfer up to about ฿650 for a speedboat. Departures run in the morning and early afternoon. Some speedboat listings show shorter times than the guide, so check the exact departure before you plan around it. In the rainy season, Lanta boats can reduce their schedules, so allow a spare day if you are connecting to a flight. More detail is in our Koh Lanta to Phi Phi guide.
Phi Phi Island Ferry From Bangkok, Railay and Other Starting Points
Not everyone starts on the Andaman coast. From Bangkok you normally fly to Phuket or Krabi and continue by boat, or take a long combined bus and ferry journey. Our Bangkok to Phi Phi guide compares the options. Railay has speedboat links that sometimes involve a change onto a smaller shuttle boat at Ao Nang, and FerryGoGo lists seasonal services from Koh Lipe that take about three and a half to four hours.
Coming from the Gulf of Thailand is a longer day, because you cross the peninsula first. If you are planning to link Koh Phi Phi with Koh Samui, see our guide to Phi Phi to Koh Samui. For Koh Yao Noi and the islands of Phang Nga Bay, our Koh Yao Noi to Phi Phi guide explains the boats.
Phi Phi Island Ferry or Speedboat: Which Is Better?
Every route offers two basic boat types, and the Phi Phi island ferry you choose changes the day more than the price suggests. FerryGoGo notes that speedboats save about an hour on the Phuket crossing but are louder, while larger ferries are steadier in choppy water.
Standard ferry: upsides
- Cheapest tickets, from about ฿270
- Larger boats are steadier in a swell
- Room to stand, walk around and use a toilet
Standard ferry: downsides
- Slower, often about two hours or more
- Fewer departures per day
- Can be crowded on busy mornings
Speedboat: upsides
- Often an hour faster on the Phuket route
- More departures through the day
- Good for tight schedules and day trips
Speedboat: downsides
- Higher fares, from about ฿437
- Louder, and bumpier in rough seas
- Small seats and limited luggage space
A simple rule works well. If you get seasick or the forecast is rough, pick the larger ferry even if it takes longer. If you are short on time in the dry season, pick the speedboat. Whichever you choose, take seasickness tablets before boarding if you are prone to it, because the Andaman Sea is often choppy.
Phi Phi Island Ferry Prices: What You Really Pay
The fare on the booking page is only part of the bill. Here is what usually sits on top of a Phi Phi island ferry ticket, so you can compare options fairly.
| Item | Typical cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Standard ferry ticket | ฿270 to ฿424 | Cheapest option; around two hours on most routes |
| Speedboat ticket | ฿437 to ฿700 | Faster and more frequent; premium boats cost more |
| Transfer to the pier | ฿30 to ฿150 in Krabi | Songthaew about ฿30, taxi about ฿150, per 12Go's route guide |
| Pier clean-up fee | ฿20 | Paid in cash at Tonsai Pier |
| National park fee | Varies | Published figures differ, so check before you go |
Koh Phi Phi lies inside a national park, and visitors may be asked for a park fee. Thai National Parks lists ฿200 for adults and ฿100 for children, while the Bangkok Post reported a separate island service fee of ฿400 and ฿200 in early 2024. The figures have not always matched across sources, so ask your hotel or tour operator what is currently charged, and keep a little cash for it.
Where the Phi Phi Island Ferry Docks: Tonsai and Laem Tong

Nearly every Phi Phi island ferry arrives at Tonsai Pier, which FerryGoGo says handles about 90% of traffic. It sits at the southern end of the village, so most hotels, restaurants and tour offices are a few minutes on foot. On arrival you pay a 20-baht clean-up fee in cash, according to Wikipedia.
A few services, mostly from Phuket, go to Laem Tong Pier on the northern tip of the island instead. That pier only serves the resorts in the north, so make sure your ticket names the right one. A ticket to Laem Tong usually costs more, and some boats cover the stretch between the two piers with a smaller shuttle boat, which means a change of boat with your bags. If you are staying at Long Beach or another remote bay, plan a longtail boat from Tonsai Pier. Our pages on the beaches explain access, starting with the island overview in our Koh Phi Phi guide.
There are no cars or scooters on Phi Phi Don, so luggage travels on porters' carts or by boat. Pack light if your hotel is far from the pier.
How to Book a Phi Phi Island Ferry
You can buy tickets online in advance or at the pier on the day. Booking ahead is worth it in the dry season from November to April, when popular departures fill up and 12Go flags routes as selling out quickly. Here is the order that works best.
Pick your route and date
Use the search form at the top of this page and compare departure times and fares. Filter by boat type if you have a preference.
Choose a ferry or a speedboat
Use the section above. If the sea is likely to be rough, favour the bigger boat.
Check the pier and pickup
Confirm that the ticket goes to Tonsai Pier, unless you are staying in the north. Check whether pickup is included and where you need to meet.
Keep your confirmation handy
Save the booking on your phone. You may need to show it at the pier before you board.
Arrive early
Reviewers recommend arriving at the pier about 45 minutes before departure, especially at Phuket's Rassada Pier.

Phi Phi Island Ferry in the Rainy Season
The Phi Phi island ferry runs all year, but conditions change. The dry season from November to April brings calm seas, while the monsoon from May to October brings rougher water, with September and October usually the choppiest months, according to 12Go. Champion Traveler reports that the Andaman Sea flattens out between December and February.
In the wet months, schedules can shrink, boats can run late, and some small operators cancel trips in bad weather. Keep your plans flexible and avoid tight connections with an international flight. Choose a ticket you can change if the weather turns, and check for a cancellation message on the morning of travel.
Seasonality also affects the island itself. Maya Bay closes from 1 August to 30 September, and some beaches see swell that makes swimming unsafe. Our best time to visit Phi Phi guide covers the month-by-month picture.
Phi Phi Island Ferry Tips: Luggage, Timing and Onward Travel
- Luggage. Crews usually load and unload bags for you, so keep valuables, medicine and documents in a small day bag.
- Timing. Take an early boat if you want to arrive before check-in rush and have time to explore. Allow a buffer before flights.
- Pier fee. Carry ฿20 in cash for the clean-up fee at Tonsai Pier.
- Pickup. Some tickets include a hotel pickup that may not be the one you expect. Confirm the meeting point in advance, as a few travelers report mix-ups.
- Onboard offers. Some boats sell tours and transfers during the crossing. You can politely decline and book later.
- Onward travel. Boats also run from Phi Phi to Krabi, Ao Nang, Koh Lanta and Phuket, so you can arrive on one coast and leave from another.
Once you land, our guide to things to do in Phi Phi and the where to stay in Phi Phi page help you plan the rest of your stay. If you only have one day, our Phi Phi day trip guide shows how to fit it in.
Leaving Phi Phi: Booking Your Return Phi Phi Island Ferry
Most people book the way in and leave the way out for later. That works in the quiet months, but it is risky if you have a flight to catch. Boats from Tonsai Pier serve Phuket, Krabi, Ao Nang and Koh Lanta, so you are not forced to go back to where you started.
- Book the return early. In the dry season, afternoon departures fill first. Reserve a seat as soon as you know your dates.
- Mind the last boat. The time of the last departure from Tonsai Pier changes by season, so confirm it before you plan a late checkout.
- Build in a buffer for flights. Add several hours between your arrival on the mainland and an international departure, especially in the rainy season.
- Pick a different exit. If you came from Phuket, you can leave for Krabi or Koh Lanta and carry on along the coast, which saves backtracking.
- Ask about pickup. Hotels and tour offices on Phi Phi can often arrange a porter or shuttle to the pier, so ask when you check in.
If you are heading onward to the Gulf coast, our guide to getting from Phi Phi to Koh Samui compares the routes, and the Bangkok to Phi Phi guide works in reverse for the journey north.
Phi Phi Island Ferry FAQ

Crossings take roughly one to three hours. Speedboats from Phuket, Krabi and Ao Nang can take about an hour, while standard ferries take around two hours or a little more. Listings vary because some boats make extra stops.
How much does the Phi Phi island ferry cost?
In October 2026, 12Go showed standard ferries from about ฿270 to ฿420 and speedboats from about ฿437 to ฿700, with premium and combined transfers costing more. Prices change by season and operator.
Which pier does the ferry arrive at?
Most boats arrive at Tonsai Pier, in the village. A few services, mainly from Phuket, go to Laem Tong Pier in the north. Check your ticket names the right pier.
Is it better to take a ferry or a speedboat?
Speedboats are faster but louder and bumpier. Larger ferries are cheaper and steadier. Choose the ferry if you get seasick or the sea is rough.
Can I buy Phi Phi ferry tickets on the day?
Yes, at the pier or through agents, but popular departures can sell out in the dry season. Booking ahead online is safer if you have a fixed schedule.
Do ferries run in the rainy season?
Yes, but schedules can be reduced and trips can be delayed or cancelled in rough weather, especially in September and October. Keep your plans flexible.
Is there a fee when I arrive on Phi Phi?
Yes. A 20-baht clean-up fee is collected in cash at Tonsai Pier.
Can I visit Phi Phi on a day trip from the mainland?
