This guide covers the timetable, operators, piers, airport transfers, prices, rainy-season tips and the trip back. Times and fares come from the 12Go timetable checked on 26 October 2026, with extra detail from Phuket Ferry and a Krabi airport transfer guide by Uncharted Lens. Schedules shift with the season, so confirm your departure when you book.

What is the best way to get from Krabi to Phi Phi?

For most travelers, a morning boat from Klong Jilad Pier is the best choice. A standard or high-speed ferry takes about two hours and costs ฿346 to ฿537, while a speedboat takes roughly an hour for ฿600 to ฿700. Take the ferry if you get seasick or carry heavy bags, and the speedboat if the sea is calm and you want more time on the island.

Krabi to Phi Phi Ferry Times: When Do Boats Leave?

The earliest sailing in the 12Go timetable leaves at 07:45 and the last listed one at 16:00, with a spread of standard ferries and speedboats in between. Most standard ferries leave between 08:15 and 10:00 and again at 13:30 to 15:00, while the speedboats cluster at about 10:15, 11:30, midday and early afternoon. Phuket Ferry's route page lists 13 sailings a day and says boats run all year.

Treat any timetable as a snapshot. Operators add and drop sailings between the dry season from November to April and the rainy season from May to October, and 12Go flagged late-October dates as selling out quickly. A morning boat is the safest pick. You reach Phi Phi with most of the day ahead, you have a margin if a crossing runs late, and the sea is often calmer before the afternoon wind.

A simple way to choose is to work backwards from your plans. If you want the afternoon on the beach, the 09:00 Andaman Wave Master ferry lands at 11:00. If you start later, the 14:30 PP Cabana speedboat reaches Tonsai at 15:30 and the 15:00 Seatran ferry at 17:00, which leaves time to check in and have dinner but little else. Whichever you choose for Krabi to Phi Phi, keep your hotel's check-in time in mind.

Some boats stop first at Laem Thong Bay in the north before reaching Tonsai, which adds time and sometimes an extra charge. Phuket Ferry says arrivals can be at either bay, so check which stop your ticket names before you book.

Krabi to Phi Phi by Speedboat or Ferry: Which Should You Pick?

Both boats cover the same water, so the choice comes down to time, comfort and risk of seasickness. Phuket Ferry notes that ferries usually keep running in the rain, while speedboats are more often stopped by rough seas. The Andaman Sea is not always calm, and that matters more than the price difference of roughly ฿250 to ฿350.

Choose the speedboat if…

  • You want the shortest crossing, roughly 50 minutes to an hour on the faster departures.
  • The weather is settled, which usually means the dry season from November to April.
  • You are travelling light and are happy with a snug seat and limited luggage space.

Boats at Noppharat Thara pier, near Ao Nang.

Choose the standard or high-speed ferry if…

  • You get seasick or the forecast is rough, since the larger boat rides more steadily.
  • You carry a lot of luggage, because ferries have more room for bags.
  • You are travelling between May and October, when speedboat sailings are the first to be cancelled.

Reviews show what to expect from the ferries. A traveler on a Songserm high-speed ferry in October 2026 called it clean and quick, while another on a Urip Travel standard ferry said the crossing took 2 h 20 instead of the 1 h 30 listed. The 12Go page for the return route has a long review describing a rough sea on a basic ferry, with passengers sick and no toilet paper left. Carry tissues and travel-sickness tablets whichever boat you pick.

Krabi to Phi Phi Operators: What Travelers Say

Reviews on 12Go give a feel for each boat, though a handful of comments is a signal and not a verdict. These are the patterns that stood out in recent reviews.

  • Chaokoh Travel Center. The 10:15 and 11:30 speedboats are rated 4.9, the best on the route, and take about 50 minutes at ฿700.
  • Andaman Wave Master. Rated 4.5 for its standard ferry at ฿350, but a speedboat at 12:30 scores 3.9. Reviewers mention staff who were curt.
  • Songserm. A high-speed ferry from Klong Jilad to Tonsai in about two hours, from ฿537 and rated 4.1. One October 2026 review says it was clean and quick.
  • PP Cabana Express. Listed as a catamaran at ฿600, but an August 2026 reviewer described a small, crowded and rough speedboat. Judge it by the weather on the day.
  • Koh Yao Sun Smile. Van plus speedboat at ฿700, rated 4.5, with a straight speedboat at ฿650 rated 4.6.
  • RTC Transport. A van and speedboat ticket at ฿1,045. One reviewer reported nobody waiting at the airport, so confirm your pickup in advance.

Krabi to Phi Phi Piers: Klong Jilad, Kong Ka, Ao Nang and Railay

Boats do not all leave from the same place, and the pier on your ticket decides how you get there. Check it before you book a transfer. For a closer look at the beach resort side, see our guide from Ao Nang to Phi Phi.

  • Klong Jilad Pier. The main pier, about 4 km south-west of Krabi Town according to 12Go. Most ferries and speedboats sail from here, including Songserm and Andaman Wave Master.
  • Kong Ka Pier. Phuket Ferry lists speedboats from here, such as a Kanichta departure at 09:15 that takes 45 minutes and Chaokoh at 10:15 and 11:30 taking about an hour.
  • Krabi River Marina. Phuket Ferry lists the PP Cabana Express here at 14:30.
  • Noppharat Thara Pier, Ao Nang. The Aonang Princess Ferry leaves at 09:30 and arrives at 11:30 for ฿520, a two-hour crossing from the beach side.
  • Railay and Ao Nam Mao. One reviewer on a Railay Eco Tour speedboat from Ao Nam Mao reached Phi Phi in about 45 minutes.

If you stay at Ao Nang or Railay, a combined ticket with hotel pickup is often easier than getting yourself to Klong Jilad. Phantip 1970 sells a minivan and ferry from Ao Nang for ฿600, taking about three hours and 15 minutes. Combined tickets from Ao Nam Mao, Krabi Town, Klong Muang and Ao Nang leave around 08:00 to 08:15 and reach Tonsai at 11:45 for about ฿520.

How to Reach the Pier for Krabi to Phi Phi: Airport, Town and Resorts

Most tickets do not include the ride to the pier. 12Go's route guide says the price excludes pickup from Krabi Town, the bus station or the airport, so plan this leg yourself unless you buy a combined ticket. If you are flying in, remember you can also fly to Phuket instead, as covered in our guide from Phuket to Phi Phi.

Krabi to Phi Phi Prices: What the Trip Really Costs

Fares on 12Go start at about ฿346 for a standard ferry and ฿600 for a speedboat. Phuket Ferry lists speedboats at roughly ฿750 to ฿850, so compare more than one source before you pay at the pier. Combined tickets cost more because they include a road leg, but save you arranging a taxi.

National park fee฿200–฿400Only on trips to Maya Bay or Bamboo Island; sources differ

The park fee is a common source of confusion. Thai National Parks lists ฿200 for adults and ฿100 for children, while other guides quote ฿400 and ฿200 for Maya Bay or Bamboo Island visits. Ask your hotel or tour operator what is charged on the day.

How to keep the cost down

  • Pick the ferry. A speedboat costs ฿250 to ฿350 more than a standard ferry, and that premium buys time, not comfort.
  • Skip the combined ticket if the pier is easy to reach. From Krabi Town a ฿30 songthaew beats a ฿520 ticket with pickup.
  • Book online before you travel. Phuket Ferry quotes higher speedboat fares than 12Go, so booking ahead is usually the cheaper way to do Krabi to Phi Phi.

Krabi to Phi Phi or Phuket to Phi Phi: Which Route Is Better?

If you have not booked your base yet, both routes work, and they are close in time. 12Go's route guide says the Krabi crossing saves around an hour at sea compared with Phuket. On 12Go the fares were higher from Krabi, with speedboats from ฿600 against ฿437 from Phuket and ferries from ฿346 against ฿270. Our Phuket to Phi Phi guide has the full Rassada Pier timetable.

Krabi makes sense if…

  • You are already in Krabi Town, Ao Nang, Railay or Koh Lanta, or flying into Krabi Airport.
  • You want the shorter speedboat crossing, from about 50 minutes.
  • You prefer a quieter base and a mix of beaches before the island.

Phuket makes sense if…

  • You are staying on Phuket or flying in there, where the 12Go timetable lists at least 18 morning departures from Rassada Pier.
  • You want the cheapest listed tickets, from ฿270 for a big ferry.
  • You plan to combine Phi Phi with a longer Phuket stay.

Either way you arrive at the same pier, so the island experience does not change. For all the ways across, from the Andaman coast and beyond, see our overview of the Phi Phi island ferry.

Krabi to Phi Phi Day Trip: Is It Worth It?

A day trip is possible, because Phi Phi lies about 34 km from Krabi, according to 12Go. The catch is time on the island. The 08:15 standard ferry reaches Tonsai at 10:15, and the last return boat from Phi Phi listed on 12Go leaves at 15:30, which gives you around five hours before you head back.

If you want snorkeling, Maya Bay and lunch in one go, a guided Phi Phi island tour is usually easier than doing it independently, because the boat handles the stops. If you would rather see the village and beaches at your own pace, stay at least one night. Our Phi Phi day trip guide shows how to plan the hours, and our page on Long Beach covers a quieter stretch of sand.

Krabi to Phi Phi in the Rainy Season

Boats run all year, but the monsoon from May to October brings rougher water. Phuket Ferry says ferries usually keep running in the rain while speedboats are more often stopped by rough seas. A traveler on a Songserm ferry in late September 2026 found the water choppy but manageable, so rough conditions do not always stop sailings.

Plan with a cushion. Avoid tight connections with international flights, choose a ticket you can change and check for a cancellation message on the morning you travel. Maya Bay also closes each year from 1 August to 30 September, and Time Out reported that it reopened on 1 October 2026. Our guide to the best time to visit Phi Phi covers the seasons month by month.

Krabi to Phi Phi Tips: Luggage, Pickups and Seasickness

  • Seasickness. Take tablets before you board, sit mid-deck near the middle of the boat and look at the horizon. A small speedboat is rougher than a ferry in the same sea.
  • Timing. One reviewer on a standard ferry took 2 h 20 instead of the listed 1 h 30. If you have a connection, assume the longer figure.
  • Pickups. A reviewer on a van and ferry ticket found nobody waiting at the airport. Confirm the meeting point and a phone number the day before.
  • Toilets. Basic ferries can run out of toilet paper, so carry tissues and hand wipes.
  • Onboard sales. Some crews push taxis or trips on the crossing. You can decline politely and book later with someone you trust.
  • Pier choice. Most boats call at Tonsai Pier, but some go to Laem Thong Bay in the north. Check which pier your ticket names before you book your hotel.

Once you land, our Koh Phi Phi guide and the list of things to do in Phi Phi help you plan the stay.

Phi Phi to Krabi: Getting Back After Your Krabi to Phi Phi Trip

Book the way back before you need it, especially if you have a flight. On 12Go the Phi Phi to Krabi route showed about six departures a day, with the last boat leaving at 15:30. A Songserm high-speed ferry takes two hours from Tonsai to Klong Jilad from ฿537, and an Andaman Wave Master standard ferry at 10:30 reached Klong Jilad at 12:30 for ฿490. Speedboats from Laem Thong Beach cost far more, at ฿1,300 for a 1 h 30 crossing.

Afternoon boats fill first in the dry season, and the last departure changes with the season, so confirm it before you plan a late check-out. You can also search Phi Phi to Krabi boats on 12Go. If you would rather not go back the way you came, boats also run from Phi Phi to Phuket and Koh Lanta. Our guides to Phuket to Phi Phi and Koh Lanta to Phi Phi cover those routes.
