Bangkok to Phi Phi is a two-part journey, because Koh Phi Phi has no airport and no railway. The fastest way is a flight of about an hour and a half to Krabi or Phuket followed by a boat, which Geckoroutes puts at roughly 3 to 5 hours from take-off. The cheapest is an overnight bus and ferry combination that takes about 17 hours and costs from around ฿1,260, and it saves you a night of accommodation.
This guide compares both routes in detail: which airport to pick, how to get from the airport to the boat, how the overnight bus really works, why the train rarely makes sense, what each option costs and how to get back. Fares and times come from the 12Go bus and ferry listing and flight listings checked on 30 October 2026, plus Geckoroutes (updated 11 September 2026) and Uncharted Lens. Prices move with the season, so confirm them when you book.

What is the best way to get from Bangkok to Phi Phi?
Fly to Krabi, then take a minivan to the pier and a ferry to Tonsai Pier. Geckoroutes calls it the quickest and cheapest flight route, at about 3 hours 10 minutes to 4 hours 10 minutes from take-off. If you would rather save money and a hotel night, the overnight bus and ferry combination costs ฿1,422 to ฿1,780 on 12Go and arrives the next morning or around midday.
Bangkok to Phi Phi by Plane: Flights, Airports and Timing
There is no flight to Phi Phi itself, so you fly to Krabi (KBV) or Phuket (HKT) and finish by sea. Geckoroutes lists both flights at about 1 hour 30 minutes. Bangkok has two airports, Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, so check which one your ticket uses before you plan the ride there. The 12Go flight listing to Phuket for 4 November 2026 showed Thai Vietjet from ฿1,226 to ฿1,739 and Thai Airways from ฿1,743 to ฿3,998.
For Krabi, the 12Go flight listing showed Thai Airways from ฿1,931 to ฿2,558 and Thai AirAsia from ฿3,055 to ฿3,899 on the same date. Geckoroutes quotes lower figures, about ฿570 to Krabi, up to ฿1,200 in peak season, and ฿960 to Phuket. Treat those as a best case and book early, because the 12Go sample for early November started higher.
Time your landing around the last boat. Geckoroutes says the earliest ferry from Rassada Pier in Phuket leaves at 08:30 and the last at 15:30, and the earliest from Klong Jilad Pier near Krabi at 09:00. Uncharted Lens advises landing by about 13:00 to make a same-day public ferry and staying a night on the mainland if you land after 14:30. A morning flight is the safe choice, and a late arrival means sleeping in Krabi or Phuket and taking the first boat.
Bangkok to Phi Phi via Krabi or Phuket: Which Airport Is Better?
Both airports work, but the numbers favor Krabi on time and ground cost. Geckoroutes estimates 3 hours 10 minutes to 4 hours 10 minutes door to door via Krabi, against 3 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours via Phuket, mostly because the Phuket taxi to Rassada Pier is far longer than the Krabi minivan to the pier.
| Via Krabi (KBV) | Via Phuket (HKT) | |
|---|---|---|
| Take-off to Phi Phi | 3 h 10 min–4 h 10 min | 3 h 30 min–5 h |
| Cheapest total, Geckoroutes | From ฿1,140 | From ฿2,100 |
| Flight, 12Go sample for 4 Nov | ฿1,931–฿3,899 | ฿1,226–฿3,998 |
| Airport to pier | Minivan ฿170, about 40 min | Taxi ฿750, 1 h–1 h 30 |
| Boat | ฿405, 1–2 h | ฿380 ferry, 1–2 h; speedboat ฿610, about 1 h |
| Van plus ferry, one ticket | From ฿840, 2–3 h | From ฿920 |
| Earliest boat | 09:00 from Klong Jilad | 08:30 from Rassada |
Do not pick on the headline fare alone. Adding Geckoroutes' transfer and ferry costs to the cheapest 12Go sample flights gives about ฿2,360 via Phuket and ฿2,510 via Krabi, so on that date Phuket was marginally cheaper. Compare both for your dates, and read our Krabi to Phi Phi guide and Phuket to Phi Phi guide for the piers, boats and fares on each side.
Bangkok to Phi Phi: From the Airport to the Boat
From Krabi Airport
Geckoroutes lists a minivan from Krabi Airport to Klong Jilad Pier for ฿170 and about 40 minutes, with a private minivan for up to nine people from ฿540 and a combined van and ferry ticket from ฿840 taking 2 to 3 hours. Uncharted Lens describes other piers: about 30 minutes to Chao Fah Pier in Krabi Town and 40 to 50 minutes to Nopparat Thara at Ao Nang, with a taxi around ฿600 to Krabi Town and ฿800 to Ao Nang. Ferries from Krabi Town, it says, leave at 09:00, 10:30, 13:30 and 15:30.

From Phuket Airport
Geckoroutes gives the taxi from Phuket Airport to Rassada Pier as ฿750 and 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, and warns that Phuket taxis are small and fit two passengers with large bags. It suggests Grab as an alternative and lists a three-seat vehicle through Bookaway from ฿780. A combined van and ferry ticket from the airport costs at least ฿920. A 12Go taxi listing in October 2026 showed a shorter 45-minute ride at ฿867, but plan for the longer time. Our guide to Phi Phi airport transfers covers every option in detail.
Bangkok to Phi Phi by Overnight Bus and Ferry
The 12Go listing for 1 to 7 November 2026 showed 27 trips from ฿1,255 to ฿25,834, with a 4.4 out of 5 rating from 72 reviews. Of those reviews, 30% gave five stars, 26% four, 25% three and 19% two. Most sampled options leave Bangkok between 17:00 and 19:00 and reach Phi Phi between about 09:40 and 12:30 the next day, so a typical trip takes about 17 hours. Geckoroutes agrees, with a combined bus and ferry ticket from ฿1,340 and 16 hours 30 minutes to 18 hours 30 minutes.
| Operator | Ticket | Departs → arrives | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Montanatip | Bus and ferry, from Khao San | 19:00 → 12:30 (+1 day) | ฿1,422 (card) |
| Nara Travel | Bus, van and ferry, from Khao San Road | 19:00 → 12:00 (+1 day) | ฿1,555 (card) |
| Nara Travel | Bus and ferry, from Khao San | 19:00 → 12:00 (+1 day) | ฿1,780 (card) |
| Montanatip | VIP bus | 19:00 → 12:30 | ฿1,357 (table) |
| The Nine Travel | Bus, van and ferry | 18:50 → 12:30 | ฿1,255 (table) |
| TransBaanTon | Taxi, bus and ferry | 18:30 → 10:30 | ฿1,265 (table) |
| The Twin 2000 | Bus and longtail boat | 18:40 → 09:40 | ฿1,250 (table) |
The cards and the table disagree. The schedule table also lists fares from ฿950 to ฿1,000, which is below the page's own ฿1,255 minimum, so budget from the card prices of ฿1,422 to ฿1,780. The three recommended cards show 12Go's label ‘All connections guaranteed', so a combined ticket is the safer choice than stitching the legs together yourself.

What the night is like
One Montanatip VIP passenger in August 2025 described checking in at the operator's office at 17:30, boarding at 18:00, a half-hour stop near midnight and a smooth ride with reclining seats, a blanket, water and snacks. Around 06:00 the group split into vehicles by destination, took a van to Krabi and a ferry across, and arrived on time. The traveler called it not luxury but convenient and good value.
Other reviewers were less happy. An August 2025 passenger on a Bangkok Travel Plus VIP bus got no drink or snack, was given about ten minutes at the midnight stop without warning and had air-conditioning leaking on a seat. A March 2026 Montanatip passenger called the final van to the pier uncomfortable, with too little space for luggage. Two travelers said they left items on the bus and heard nothing back from 12Go support. Keep valuables and a charger with you, and check under your seat.
The do-it-yourself version
You can build the trip from separate tickets. Geckoroutes prices an overnight bus to Krabi bus terminal at ฿850 (11 to 16 hours 30 minutes), a 20-minute taxi to Klong Jilad Pier and a ferry at ฿365, which comes to about ฿1,220 in total. Via Phuket it comes to about ฿1,320. The saving over a combined ticket is small, and a late bus can leave you watching the last boat go.

Bangkok to Phi Phi by Train: Why It Rarely Makes Sense
There is no direct train, and the rail option is the slowest. Geckoroutes describes a train to Surat Thani of about 13 hours, a bus to Phuket Bus Terminal 2 of about 6 hours, a taxi to Rassada Pier and then the ferry, about 22 hours in all from ฿1,700. It calls this exhausting and suggests it only fits if you plan to stop in Surat Thani, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan or Koh Tao first. If Samui is on your list, our Phi Phi to Koh Samui guide shows how to link the two coasts.
Bangkok to Phi Phi Cost: Flight vs Bus Compared
| Route | Time | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overnight bus and ferry, one ticket | About 17–17.5 h | ฿1,260–฿1,780 | 12Go cards and page range; Geckoroutes from ฿1,340 |
| Bus via Krabi, separate tickets | 12 h–19 h 30 | From ฿1,220 | Geckoroutes: bus ฿850, taxi, ferry ฿365 |
| Flight via Krabi | 3 h 10 min–4 h 10 min | From ฿1,140 | About ฿2,510 using the cheapest 12Go sample fare |
| Flight via Phuket | 3 h 30 min–5 h | From ฿2,100 | About ฿2,360 using the cheapest 12Go sample fare |
| Train, bus and ferry | About 22 h | From ฿1,700 | Geckoroutes advises against it |
Add the ride to your Bangkok airport and any checked-bag fee on a low-cost fare. For a solo traveler the bus often wins on price, since a flight plus transfers lands around ฿2,350 to ฿2,500 in early November. The gap narrows for two people sharing a taxi, and a flight can save a night of hotel and a day of travel time.
Choose the flight if…
- You have a short trip and every day on the island counts.
- You get motion sick on long bus rides or sleep badly sitting up.
- You can find a morning fare that lands before 13:00 to catch a same-day boat.
Choose the overnight bus if…
- You want to save about ฿1,000 and skip a night of accommodation.
- You are traveling light and can sleep on a coach.
- You prefer one ticket with every transfer arranged for you.
Bangkok to Phi Phi Step by Step
Pick your route
Decide between a flight and the overnight bus using the table above, then choose Krabi or Phuket if you fly.
Book the long leg
Reserve the flight or a combined ticket on the 12Go Bangkok to Phi Phi page. Uncharted Lens recommends booking ahead in the high season from November to April.
Book the ground leg
Choose a combined van and ferry ticket, or pre-book an airport minivan and a boat for a fixed time. Check which pier is on your ticket.
Leave a buffer
Land by about 13:00 for a same-day boat. If you land later, book a night in Krabi or Phuket and take the first sailing.
Cross to Tonsai Pier
Most ferries from Krabi and Phuket dock at Ton Sai Pier, though some use Laem Tong, so check your ticket before you board.

Bangkok to Phi Phi in High Season and Monsoon
From November to April demand is highest and Uncharted Lens advises pre-booking, especially for speedboats. In the rainy months boats are more likely to be delayed or stopped. Phuket Ferry notes that ferries usually keep running in rain while speedboats are more often stopped by rough seas, so a standard ferry is the safer choice and a flexible ticket helps.
Maya Bay also closes each year from 1 August to 30 September, and Time Out reported that it reopened on 1 October 2026. Our guide to the best time to visit Phi Phi covers the weather month by month, and the Maya Bay guide lists the current rules.
Bangkok to Phi Phi Tips: Piers, Luggage and Buffers
- Pier. Geckoroutes says most Phi Phi ferries from Krabi and Phuket dock at Ton Sai Pier, but some go to Laem Tong. Check before you book a hotel.
- One ticket or many. A combined ticket keeps the connections under one operator, and Uncharted Lens says combined-ticket operators will usually wait for reasonable flight delays.
- Phuket taxis. Geckoroutes notes they are small, so two people with big bags may need a larger car.
- Night bus. Bring a light layer, a charger and earplugs. Reviewers mention strong air-conditioning and a blanket on some coaches.
- Valuables. Keep your passport, phone and cash in your day bag, and check under the seat when you get off.
- Arrival at noon. Bus passengers reach Phi Phi around midday, so ask your hotel to hold your bags until check-in.
Once you land, our Koh Phi Phi guide, the list of things to do in Phi Phi and our page on Long Beach help you plan the stay. For every boat route see the Phi Phi island ferry overview.
Bangkok to Phi Phi and Back: Getting Home
The return trip is the same journey in reverse. You can search Phi Phi to Bangkok trips on 12Go for the overnight combination. If you fly, take a morning boat to Krabi or Phuket and book a flight that leaves in the afternoon or evening. 12Go's Phi Phi to Krabi timetable showed the last boat at 15:30, so a late flight is safer than a midday one.
