Haad Rin from above, with the Full Moon Party beach on the right.

Full Moon Party Koh Phangan is a beach party on Haad Rin that runs from about 9 pm until sunrise, once a month around the full moon. The next one is on 24 November 2026. Entry is paid in cash at the beach, and the real planning work is the boat, the room and the ride home.

This guide covers the dates for 2026 and 2027, what the party costs, how to get there from Koh Samui and where to sleep. It draws on Full Moon Party Thailand, Thai Holiday Guide, Home Is Where Your Bag Is and Theo Courant, plus the ferry pages on this site and three GetYourGuide listings we checked on 6 November 2026. Sources disagree on a few prices and times, and we say where.

The 27 October 2026 party has already happened. The 31 December parties are New Year's Eve events held on the same beach, and Full Moon Party Thailand notes there is no astronomical full moon on those nights. The “party week” column is the period when the island fills up, which matters for rooms more than for the party itself.

Check the date twice

Thai Holiday Guide also warns that full moon dates shift for Buddhist holy days. If you are booking flights, pick the party night first and then check it again on the day you book the room.

Full Moon Party Koh Phangan Entry Fee and Tickets

The entrance fee for the full moon party Koh Phangan is ฿200, paid in cash at the entrance to Haad Rin beach, according to both Full Moon Party Thailand and Thai Holiday Guide. Older articles quote ฿100, for example Theo Courant, so treat the lower figure as out of date. The fee gets you a neon wristband, per Thai Holiday Guide's Haad Rin page.

Thai Holiday Guide warns that advance tickets sold online for the beach entry are a scam, and Full Moon Party Thailand says there are no online tickets. That does not rule out packages from tour operators. Those bundle a boat, a pickup and sometimes the entry, and you are paying for the transport as much as for the party. The listing below says it includes party entry, so read what is included before you pay.

Where the Full Moon Party Koh Phangan Takes Place: Haad Rin Beach

The party is held on Haad Rin Nok, also called Sunrise Beach, at the southern tip of the island. Thai Holiday Guide puts the beach at about 700 metres long, while its Haad Rin page describes bars along a one-kilometre stretch, so expect roughly that length. Haad Rin Nai, or Sunset Beach, is a few hundred metres across the peninsula and stays quieter, with calmer water for daytime swimming.

Music changes along the beach. Thai Holiday Guide describes house and techno at the south end, drum and bass in the middle, and reggae and commercial dance towards the north, with hip-hop and R&B near the bars. Fire dancers, neon body paint and food stalls at the back of the beach complete the picture. Our Haad Rin beach guide covers the two beaches in daylight, and our Rin Nai Beach guide covers the calmer side.

How to Get to the Full Moon Party Koh Phangan From Koh Samui

There are two ways to reach the party from Koh Samui. A party-night speedboat runs to Haad Rin and back after the party. A regular ferry takes you to Thong Sala and a songthaew takes you south. The first is simpler on the night, and the second gives you a bed on the island.

Where to Stay for the Full Moon Party Koh Phangan

Rooms are the tightest part of the full moon party Koh Phangan, because Haad Rin fills first. Thai Holiday Guide advises booking 2 to 4 weeks ahead for December to March parties and 4 to 6 weeks ahead for December or January. It reports that budget rooms that normally cost ฿500 to ฿800 can reach ฿1,500 to ฿3,000 in party week, with dorm beds at ฿800 to ฿1,500. Home Is Where Your Bag Is adds that minimum stays of 3 to 5 nights are common around the party.

Ban Tai and Ban Kai are 5 to 10 minutes from Haad Rin by songthaew and usually cost less, and Thong Sala has the most services. Leela Beach, a few minutes from Haad Rin, is described as calmer. Our guide to where to stay in Koh Phangan compares the areas, and our Koh Phangan bungalows guide covers the cheaper end. You can compare current rooms for your dates on Agoda.

Avoid the scooter on party night

Full Moon Party Thailand advises against driving at night and says to stay close to the party beach. Home Is Where Your Bag Is gives the same advice, especially if you are drinking. Use a songthaew or taxi.

Full Moon Party Koh Phangan Safety Tips

Most trouble at the full moon party Koh Phangan comes from alcohol, the sea, scooters and drugs. Full Moon Party Thailand says clearly not to go into the ocean, because alcohol, the dark open sea and tricky currents at Haad Rin are a dangerous mix. Our Haad Rin weather guide explains the monthly sea conditions.

  • Wear shoes you can throw away. Thai Holiday Guide says the sand has broken glass by midnight.
  • Buy sealed bottles or watch your drink being made, and do not take free drinks from strangers.
  • Leave passports, watches, cameras and cards in the hotel safe. Home Is Where Your Bag Is and Theo Courant both suggest carrying a copy of your passport instead.
  • Skip the fire rope. Thai Holiday Guide advises keeping a safe distance from fire performers.
  • Arrange the ride home before you start drinking, and agree the price.
  • Check that your travel insurance covers Thailand, alcohol-related incidents and scooters. Full Moon Party Thailand notes that cover often requires a valid licence.

Thai drug laws are strict

Both Thai Holiday Guide and Full Moon Party Thailand warn that undercover police work at the party and that penalties for drugs in Thailand are severe. Thai Holiday Guide also describes scams where a seller works with corrupt officers.

What to Expect at the Full Moon Party Koh Phangan

The full moon party Koh Phangan started in the 1980s, with some sources citing 1987 and others 1988, according to Theo Courant, and grew after electronic music arrived in the early 1990s. Crowds depend on the season. Thai Holiday Guide puts a typical December to March party at 20,000 to 30,000 people and May, June and September parties at 5,000 to 10,000.

Expect a dozen or more sound systems, fire shows, neon body paint and food stalls. Thai Holiday Guide says peak hours are about 10 pm to 2 am. The party carries on to sunrise, and the Theo Courant article mentions an after-party that starts at 7 am for those who are still going. Allow a recovery day, because that article also suggests 2 to 3 days for the whole event.
